Aurinko ilmastonmuutoksen aiheuttajana ?

Scafetta-Wilson Paper: Increasing TSI between 1980 and 2000 could have contributed significantly to global warming during the last three decades.

New Paper: Increasing Total Solar Irradiance (TSI) could have contributed significantly to global warming

At the December 2008 NRC meeting "Detection and Attribution of Solar Forcing on Climate" [see] there was extensive criticism by Gavin Schmidt and others on the research of Nicola Scafetta with respect to solar climate forcings. He was not, however, invited to that December meeting. There is now a new paper that he has published that needs to be refuted or supported by other peer reviewed literature (rather than comments in a closed NRC meeting in which the presenters would not share their powerpoint talks). The new paper is:

Scafetta N., R. C. Willson (2009), ACRIM-gap and TSI trend issue resolved using a surface magnetic flux TSI proxy model, Geophys. Res. Lett., 36, L05701.

  1. SOLAR ACTIVITY

    Scafetta et al 2009 wrote:
This finding has evident repercussions for climate change and solar physics. Increasing TSI between 1980 and 2000 could have contributed significantly to global warming during the last three decades [Scafetta and West, 2007, 2008]. Current climate models [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2007] have assumed that the TSI did not vary significantly during the last 30 years and have therefore underestimated the solar contribution and overestimated the anthropogenic contribution to global warming.

If this latest paper on the TSI during the 1980's and 1990's is correct, it seems that a reanalysis of the data shows that TSI was actually increasing during that period and could account for much of the global warming seen during that period and not increasing GHGs.

Solar activity has a lot to do with Global Warming. We must remember that this is the reason given for the medieval warming period.

  2. Scafetta-West aikaisempi artikkeli

In this weekly dose (november 2007) of the peer-reviewed skeptical literature about climate, we look into Journal of Geophysical Research:

    http://motls.blogspot.com/2007/11/scafetta-west-climate-phenomenology.html

Artikkelia (Scafetta-West) analysoivat Climate Audit ja Real Climate (linkitys näihin yllä olevassa linkissä).

    NOTE:

Incidentally, Real Climate didn't offer their readers the text of the actual article that they criticized: they only criticized it. These methods remind me of the communist propaganda.

If solar is responsible for half of global warming, then all the more reason to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. We can’t control the sun, but we can alter the greenhouse effect through the amount of fossil fuels we burn.

Itse asiassa, sama ilmiö tapahtuu parilla-kolmella muullakin planeetalla.

Ainakin Dr James Hansen (matkalla Britanniaan?) repii pelihousunsa!

  9. Svensmarkin "Cloud mystery" dokumentti kannattaa vilkaista jos jostain löytää. Mielenkiintoista ainesta. CLOUD projektin tuloksia taas odotellaan CERN suunnalta 2-3 vuoden sisään.

Aika suoraselkäisesti tuossa verkkouutisessa kuitenkin asiasta kirjoitetaan.
